Electric Bikes Selling Briskly In US and Globally

open quoteDemand for electric bicycles has increased in the U.S. and globally. In the U.S., around 10,000 electric bikes were sold during 2007, up from the 6,000 sold in 2006, the National Bicycle Dealers Association says.

Riding the nexus of higher gas prices and a movement for greener transportation alternatives, electric bikes are being touted by former GM executives and using the same laptop battery power as hybrid cars.

Electric bicycles, although they have power assist, don't require a license, as long as the speed is less than 20 mph and the power used doesn't exceed 750 watts
